Minimum Presentation Standards and Show Support Core Principles

Show Support | 23rd November 2018

Hi Showies,

First of all, thanks to all of our Melbourne Showies who have been doing the hard grind throughout the spring period and delivering exceptional levels of customer service to many clients.

As we increase our market share of our industry in Victoria, we have many new faces onboard here in Melbourne to service the demand and overall, client feedback has continued to be positive.

All senior Showies Β should take the time to welcome any new Showies onboard by assisting them toward achieving the high standards that have built the reputation you have so deservedly earned.

What has set Show Support apart from our competition are the four basic principles, Pro-Activity, Presentation, Preparedness and Reliability.

Together these principles add up to Professionalism and it is this professional standard that all Showies should strive to maintain and be proud of.

For new crew, please see below for a brief explanation of the expectations SHS holds in regard to your employment and for our regular and Senior Showies, please take a moment to again read through the defining principles of our organisation, so as to refresh those principles in your mind.

Pro-Activity – (Attitude)

All staff must always take a pro-active attitude to their work. This means, at its very basic level, when you have finished a task assigned to you, seek out the client or crew chief immediately to be assigned further tasks. This can be done by simply asking β€œOk that’s been done, how can I make myself useful?”

Experienced crew can volunteer for jobs that they can see will need to be done, for example β€œI’ve finished that task, I can see that the drapes, screen and audio run needs to be done, would you like me to start on one of those Β or something else?”

By being proactive, you are providing a high level of customer service to our clients.

Presentation

All staff must always maintain minimum presentation standards (MPS) which include Black Polo tucked into black work pants in good condition along with Black Steel caps Boots or shoes.

Top two buttons should be done up on Polos.

SHS Waistpack or tool belt must be worn as part of uniform on all shifts.

Long hair or beards must be maintained neat and tidy on jobs with long hair being tied back. Short beards must be trimmed and those without beards must be clean shaven (no 5 o’clock shadows). Dreadlocks must be tied back and short dreadlocks must be maintained in a neat fashion whilst on the job.

Uniform items with rips or tears are in Breach of SHS Minimum Presentation Standards. Uniform must always be maintain in good condition.

Our high presentation out in the field is imperative to the first impressions our clients have of you, which goes toward the respect the client provides to you throughout your shift. Our high presentation standards also signify the professionalism of our service and your professional attitude toward undertaking work for our clients.

It is expected that our MPS are adhered to before arrival to your shift i.e do not turn up to your shift untucked, and it is expected that MPS are maintained throughout your shift, i.e after truck packs, labourious works, breaks etc, tidy yourself up.

Our Presentation sets us apart from our competitors and provides confidence to our clients.

Preparedness – Tools

All Showies must bring to every job, a shifter and a multitool which is to be carried on their person (Within waist pack or tool belt) at all times throughout their shift. They should also obtain 19/24 Ratchet Podger (available from most good hardware stores or can be purchased through Show Support for $34.

Tools should not be kept in bags after start of shifts i.e If a client asks you for a shifter or multitool and you have to go to your bag to get it, you have failed the client and let the reputation of your Senior Melbourne staff members down.

Show Support and Showies have a reputation of being fully prepared for every shift. This reputation has been built over many years and again, this is another factor that sets SHS apart from our competition.

Reliability
All staff must arrive and be ready to begin work at least 15 minutes prior to their shift.

Reliability really speaks for itself. Clients with tight event deadlines haven’t got time to chase late crew or fall behind in their schedule due to lateness or non arrival. Crew that are unreliable not only let our clients down but also let their SHS colleagues down. A four man lift in the back of the truck becomes dangerous when one crew member has not arrived due to lateness and there are only three Showies there to start the job.

Ultimately we work in an industry that is tightly scheduled, runs to tight deadlines and relies on the reliability of those that fill it. Unlike other industries, it is not acceptable to simply decide to not turn up for work for the day or be relaxed toward making the start time.

Reliability is the hallmark of professionalism.

Show Support’s dynamic ranking system ensures that those that bring a positive attitude to work and make an effort to deliver a high level of customer service to our clients, through maintaining the standards and principles above, are rewarded by opportunities for work throughout the year and are also offered first dibs on shifts that come in.

If you have any questions regarding the above or would like to discuss how you can move further up the ranks within Show Support, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Once again, thank you to all the Showies that have contributed toward our ongoing success in Victoria, through their dedication toward delivering a high level of customer service to our clients out in the field. For new recruits, on behalf of Show Support and all Senior Melbourne crew, I welcome you onboard and look forward to your contribution toward raising our already high standards of operation.

Kind regards,

Max Dessmann.
