The Show Support Joint Safety Committee recently held a meeting to further strengthen our commitment to safety. A Resolution was passed which led the Committee to add new information to the Manual Handling section in the Tool Box Talk and a new section was added on Truck Packing. Information can be found in the Pre-Start Acceptance safety induction or simply by locating the Tool Box Talk in the Induction within the CrewCard App.
Go to Job Details then click the menu icon top right, open the Induction and select the Toolbox Talk.
The new information on manual handling is as follows:
- Lift correctly β bend knees, keep back straight
- Never attempt to lift too heavy a load
- Never lift extra heavy cables packers, unpack them and carry in sections
- Correct numbers for lift β use 4 crew where possible
- If unsure do a test lift to gauge the weight of the case before lifting
- Always count to three before a lift
- Check for loose smeg on top of cases before lifting
- The most experienced Crew Member should always lead
- Check latches are locked before lifting
- Make sure wheel locks are off when destacking cases
- If unsure, ask a seasoned Crew Member or the Client
All new information on Truck Packing is as follows:
- Ask driver of truck to turn on lights
- Where possible, always get the most experienced crew in the truck
- Where possible, always keep inexperienced crew out of the truck
- If needing to train new crew, keep four experienced crew and two newer crew
- If not calling the truck pack then remain quiet so that instructions can be heard
- Communicate every lift, count to three and lift as a team
- Keep your hands and other body parts from between cases and truck surfaces
- Preferably double stack cases in the truck rather than before going up a ramp and keep wheel locks on
- Ideally on a ramp, push cases from the bottom with one crew front and back and two crew on the ground either side of the ramp to help push the case
- Never let go of cases when at the top of the ramp
