Letter 27th April 2007
Dear Show Support Crew Member,
Please read the following information carefully.
CRUSTS
A reminder to help you remember your obligations as a Show Support Crew Member (not just an ordinary, common loader) on all shifts.
CRUSTS stands for:
CREW (must be)
RELIABLE (in)
UNIFORM (with)
STEEL CAPS (and)
TOOLS (and must end their shift with an)
Reliable β You must be onsite 15 minutes before your shift begins. Also, once you accept a booking, you cannot pull out of it unless you give us 2 working days notice. Pulling out of a Saturday Night bump out Saturday morning does nothing to enhance a person’s ‘bookability’.
If we text you a confirmed message for a gig that we have not even consulted you about, we assume you will be there. If you cannot do this shift, no problem, just text us back to let us know. No response will be seen as acceptance.
Uniform β You must be wearing SHS Polo Shirt and Long, neat black trousers/Cargo Pants in cold weather, and neat black shorts in warm weather. For Staging Connections you must always wear long, black pants. The price of the first shirt is deducted from your pay, after that they are free. It may appear to you on your payslip (which you should receive every Thursday or Friday) that you are being charged for a new shirt each week, but if you read it carefully it tells you each week under YTD (year to date) that you have only been charged for one shirt for the whole year. If you need a new shirt please email to request a new one to be sent out to you.
Steel Caps β Steel Capped Safety Boots are mandatory on all call outs. Crew Chiefs cannot allow crew onsite if they do not have safety boots.
Tools β Show Support Crew Members must always wear their Show Support Utility Belts (bum bags) at all times with a minimum of 2 shifters and a Leatherman. A torch, screwdrivers, pliers etc are also recommended. If you cannot wear the Utility Belt for some reason then you should carry your tools on your belt. Please do not wear the Utility Belt over your shoulder, only around your waist, and always wear it from the moment you start work until the moment you finish. Once you take it off it means your gig is over and you should text in your times immediately (if you have not already done so.) If you lose your bum bag, or it becomes unusable, please email and request a new one to be sent out to you.
If your Client or Crew Chief asks to borrow your shifter or leatherman at any stage on a gig and you can not provide one, you are zipped.
SMS β Immediately send the SMS in the format outlined above at the end of your shift. If we do not receive it within an hour of the end of your shift, it is considered too late and you will not be eligible for the $4.00 an hour bonus for that shift. In fact, in the near future, the database will automatically lock shifts off and deduct the bonus if the SMS has not been received within the specified time frame. Please ensure that the times you SMS have been signed off by the client/Crew Chief.
In order to be eligible for the $4.00 an hour bonus all the conditions above, CRUSTS, must be adhered to.
